The WB website is at present being redesigned and modernised. This is a long process, but we will do our best to have the new site ready within the next few weeks. No updates will be made to the old site, but until our new site is up and running, abstracts of recent articles published in WB can be viewed at www.bioone.org. Thank you for your understanding.

Page charges for large articles
15 December 2006

We are aware that the increasing backlog of accepted papers may deter authors from submitting articles to WILDLIFE BIOLOGY. Therefore it is our first priority to bring down the backlog to an acceptable level. To help us reach this goal the Editorial Board of Wildlife Biology have decided to introduce a page charge for articles comprising more than 10 pages. The page charge is set at DKK 500.00 (approx. € 68.00 or US $ 90.00) per page above 10, meaning that for a 12-page article there will be a page charge of DKK 1,000.00. The page charge is applicable only to papers submitted in 2007 and later, i.e. articles are submitted before 1 January 2007 will not be affected. The purpose of this is not to make money, but to encourage our authors to write shorter articles, and thus to make room for more articles in each issue. Students or researchers without institutional affiliations may be granted exemption from the pages charges after agreement with the Editorial Board. Authors of accepted papers may therefore soon receive the good news that their papers will be published sooner than expected and it is our sincerest hope that this new strategy will help us bring down our backlog.

As a rule of thumb, one set page consists of 4.000 characters including spaces. So an aricle of 10 pages can contain 40.000 characters including spaces. If there are tables and figures in your articles the number of characters will be lower. Tables are printed in widths of either 75 or 155 mm and figures in widths of 65, 90 or 145 mm + 10 mm for the grey frame. When your article has been accepted for publication, the Editorial Office will send you an e-mail with an estimate of the number of pages of your set article. If your article is estimated to be larger than 10 pages, you will have the options to either shorten your article in cooperation with your Associate Editor or the pay the page charge (or apply for an exemption). Please note that page charges should be paid before printing.

Charges for corrections/changes to galley proofs
15 December 2006

Up until now WILDLIFE BIOLOGY has been printed in and distributed from Denmark, but due to increasing costs we have decided to team up with Allen Press in the U.S. who from the beginning of 2007 will be responsible for the printing and distribution of WILDLIFE BIOLOGY. This may free some means which will be used to increase the number of pages per issue. Our move to Allen Press will have another implication for our authors. Changes to articles that have been technically edited and set will now have a price. Allen Press will charge us for every change they have to make to articles that have already been set, and we have no other option than to forward this charge to our authors. This will not be done for profits, but only to neutralise costs. This means that any changes/corrections to the text, tables, legends or figures - other than corrections of mistakes or errors made by the Editorial Office - after the article has been set will be charged with up to 3.50 € per change/correction plus a service charge of 10.00 €. All prices are excluding VAT and 25% VAT will be charged to all countries within the EU unless a valid VAT registration number can be provided.

To deal with an increasing back log of accepted manuscripts, the NKV has decided to increase the number of pages per issue from 80 to 96 pages. An increase in pages leads to an increase in costs. Therefore, it has been necessary to increase the subscription price of WILDLIFE BIOLOGY from DKK 600.00 per volume to DKK 750.00 per volume for personal subscriptions and DKK 1000.00 for institutional subscriptions as of volume 12. The price for a single issue will be DKK 250.00 and DKK 350.00 for personal orders and institutional orders, respectively.

The Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage (ONCFS) has joined the NKV as an associate member. WILDLIFE BIOLOGY was formed by the Nordic countries, which terminated their national journals. France has done the same, by terminating "Game and Wildlife Science". Having France as a part of NKV is very important for WB, because we increase our professional base in Europe. Subscribers to "Game and Wildlife Science" will receive WILDLIFE BIOLOGY instead in 2005.

During 2001 many articles have been accepted for publication in WILDLIFE BIOLOGY, meaning that the time lapse between acceptance and publication has increased considerably; therefore we have decided to extend the contents of WILDLIFE BIOLOGY from 64 pages to 80 pages in 2002. This, on the other hand, means that we have had to increase the subscription price a little, so that from next year the annual subscription fee will increase from DKK 500 excl. VAT to DKK 600 excl. VAT. At the same time we have terminated our campaign, but older volumes of WILDLIFE BIOLOGY may still be acquired with considerable discounts if bought together with new volumes, and we have also kept the discounts on subscriptions covering 2 (volumes 8-9) or 3 years (volumes 8-10). For further details, see our Order Form.
